Getting started: connect your phone to Amai

Amai works with the number you already have. You set up simple call forwarding so that when you're busy or don't pick up, your calls roll to Amai — it answers, books appointments, captures leads, and texts you. Takes about 5 minutes.

You'll need:
One important thing first: the number where you get booking texts must be a mobile — you confirm bookings by replying YES, and a landline can't send or receive texts. Your business line can be anything (we just forward it); only your contact number needs to be a cell.

How it works

You choose when calls go to Amai:

Only when you can't answer recommended

"Busy / No-Answer" forwarding: you pick up when you're free, and Amai catches every call you miss. Best of both — you never lose a customer.

All calls

Every call goes straight to Amai. Great for after-hours, or if you want Amai to be your full front desk. The fastest way to go live today — you can switch to "busy/no-answer" later.

📱 If your business number is a mobile (cell)

Dial these from your business cell. Replace AMAI# with your Amai number (10 digits; for T-Mobile add a leading 1).

No-answer **61*1AMAI# · Busy **67*1AMAI# (off all: ##002#)**21*1AMAI# · off ##21#
Any carrier*72 AMAI# (off *73) works almost everywhere

On an iPhone or Android you can also set "forward when unanswered" in Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding (varies by carrier).

☎️ If your business number is a landline

Landline forwarding is set through your phone provider — that's a separate service from your cell. Not sure who it is? Check your monthly bill.

ProviderHow to set busy / no-answer forwarding
Verizon · AT&T · CenturyLink/Lumen · Frontier · CoxDial from the business phone — Busy: *90 AMAI# · No-answer: *92 AMAI# (cancel: *91 / *93). Or set it in your online account.
Xfinity / Comcast VoiceXfinity app or Voice portal → Call Forwarding → Busy & No Answer → AMAI#
Spectrum VoiceSpectrum account → Voice → Call Forwarding
RingCentral · Nextiva · Ooma · Vonage · 8x8 · GrasshopperProvider app/dashboard → Call Handling / Forwarding rules (look for "when busy / unanswered" or "after hours")
Any providerForward all calls: *72 AMAI# (off *73). Or call support: "enable Call Forwarding Busy/No Answer to AMAI#."
Star codes vary by plan (copper vs. fiber/VoIP). If a code gives an error tone, that plan doesn't use it — set it in your provider's app/portal, or call their support and read them the line above.

Test it

From a different phone, call your business number:

  1. While you're on another call (busy) → it should ring Amai.
  2. Let it ring without answering → it should roll to Amai.
  3. Have a quick chat with Amai and ask to book — check that you get a text about the new booking.

Confirming bookings

When a customer books, Amai texts you the details and a code. To confirm:

Just reply YES. Amai then texts the customer their confirmation and sets a reminder. If more than one is waiting, reply YES plus the code Amai shows you.

Optional: connect your calendar

Connect Google Calendar or Square in your dashboard and Amai will check your availability and confirm appointments right on the call — no "reply YES" needed. Best hands-off setup.
